What happens to textiles at Thread Up Oxford?

At Thread Up Oxford, every donation is carefully processed to ensure maximum impact within our community. By following this process, we ensure that every donation finds the best possible use – whether through reuse, repurposing or recycling. Here’s how it works:

  1. Weighing & Tracking - upon arrival, all donated materials are weighed and the weights are recorded for tracking purposes.

  2. Sorting & Evaluation - Each textile item is carefully examined by volunteers to determine the best way to use it:

Top Quality Items

Brand new or like-new items are:

  • Sold at our Uptown Threads thrift store to support our mission.

  • Provided to local service organizations to assist individuals in hardship situations.

Good Quality Items

Items with some wear or minor defects are:

  • Made available for free through our Freejects tables

    • Freejects tables are located inside of Thread Up Oxford at 5156 College Corner Pike (Tuesday-Friday from 11:00-4:00).

Poor Quality Items

Textiles that are too damaged for reuse are:

  • Responsibly recycled through various partnerships

Thank you for supporting Thread Up Oxford and helping us reduce textile waste in our community!
